Rules of Creativity

Rules of Creativity

I’ve read books and watched documentaries about great creative geniuses of all time. First of all, they had some elements of craziness in the eye of the world community. Craziness in a good way. In my opinion, they were not crazy at all. I actually could relate to them. There were eccentric ones like Dali, Duchamp, and Warhol. They definitely did things differently and saw the world from a different lens. Their own lens.

Be Bold

Those who studied art at college or university somehow always urged to break the mold they were formed in within the education system. They all said “Ye fine. Thank you for your tuition but I want to make art my way. I want to be me”.  Should they haven’t taken that leap of faith, they would have never reached new heights within the art world. They were bold enough to challenge the system. They created new styles, new palettes, new forms, new compositions. That is the beauty of art.

The Inspiration to create

I am not saying that Michelangelo’s works are not to be admired and appreciated. Far from it. I actually observe old masters however I then adapt my observations to my thinking at the moment. Each artist is inspired in different ways. People, nature, politics, religion, music, circumstances, smell, knowledge, fashion. Anything can be inspiring. It all depends on how open one is to absorb and analyze the notion and then manage to interpret it in an art form. This whole process is very fluid for me and it is important that it stays fluid as much as possible. The initial idea will evolve through the process while creating. That is the beauty of it.  I really enjoy the process of creating much more than looking at the end product. There can be a sense of satisfaction when one finishes a piece however there no better adrenaline than the process of creating.

Let it be

I have no ritual. No rules. Actually creativity has no rules. Rules suffocate creativity. I believe in being open as much as I can to inspiration. I try different media, I paint in different styles. I cannot say I have a style and I do not think I want to have one. Maybe I will have one or maybe not. Just let it be and magic will happen.
